Celebrating Growth: A Powerful Close to Our Mentorship Program
As we wrap up our very first program, we are filled with gratitude, pride, and inspiration. This program has been one of growth, learning, and empowerment — centered around our mission to uplift our young queens. They showed up with enthusiasm ready to learn, be engaged and inspired. Special thank you to all that helped empower this movement. The parents, community, partnerships and board members were pivotal contributors to make our program successful.
Building Financial Confidence with NuMark Credit Union
We kicked off the session with an empowering financial literacy series, led by the experts at NuMark Credit Union. The girls learned essential money management skills including budgeting, saving, understanding credit, and building smart financial habits. These sessions gave our participants the tools to begin shaping a secure financial future — a foundation that will follow them for years to come.
Fueling Our Bodies with Ms. Tierra Smith, Registered Dietitian
Health is wealth, and our next focus was on nutrition and wellness. Tierra Smith, a knowledgeable and passionate registered dietitian, shared valuable insight into healthy eating habits, food labels, meal planning, and the impact of nutrition on mental clarity and energy. The girls were empowered to make better food choices and understand how food connects to overall well-being.
On the academic Journey with Mrs. Jharita Jordan
Jharita is one of our board members and an experienced educator with a deep passion for student success. She led an empowering session focused on academic advocacy and college readiness. Jharita shared valuable insights on how to speak up for yourself in school, utilize school resources like counselors and tutoring, and take ownership of your academic journey. She also guided the girls through the realities of college planning, highlighting the differences between going away to school versus staying in-state, and how to make the best decision for their future. Most importantly, we reminded our mentees that they are not alone — we are here to walk with them, support them, and cheer them on every step of the way as they pursue academic excellence.
Moving with Purpose with Ms. Trinita Stevenson of Body Rehab Fitness
Our bodies are our greatest tools — and thanks to fitness expert Trinita Stevenson, the girls explored the importance of physical health. Through engaging workout and motivational lessons, Trinita emphasized consistency, body positivity, and the mental benefits of staying active. Her vibrant energy lit a spark in each participant, reminding them of their strength and resilience.
A Safe Space for Mental Health and Self-Care -Ms. Kenda McIntosh, MS, LPC
At every meeting, we opened with prayer, our mantra and carved out time for our group check-ins. Our board member and licensed counselor Kenda McIntosh led our group check-ins. This time provided our mentees a chance to get to know each other better, bond and share a safe space whether we laughed or had more intense conversation, in this supportive space we wanted to make sure that they knew they were heard and valued.
How to Slay with Style and Confidence with Mrs. Monique Renee G.
Looking good can be a gateway to feeling good, and fashion stylist Monique brought this message to life. She taught our girls how to maximize their wardrobes, choose colors that bring out their best features, and own their personal style. More importantly, she reminded them that confidence starts from within — and that what you wear should reflect your inner power.
Fixing our Crown with Ms. Brittney Thomas of Vivacious Beauty
Another highlight of our session was the empowering and educational workshop led by hairstylist, Brittney Thomas of Vivacious Beauty. Brittney shared her professional expertise giving our mentees practical, confidence-boosting tips on how to care for and love their hair. From understanding proper hydration, proper washing techniques, braiding skills, product recommendations, and maintain healthy hair, Brittney broke it all down in a way that was both fun and relatable. The girls loved the braiding session and were able to participate in learning how to braid with add-ins and feeder braids. Her session wasn’t just about hair — it was about identity, confidence, and self-love, and we are so grateful for her impactful presence in our program.
Career-themed Photoshoot: See it and believe it with Mr. David White
See it and believe it! By providing a professional career-themed photoshoot, our young queens were able to visualize their future careers. This photoshoot allowed our mentees to see it and believe it with career goals from beauty salon owner, veterinarian, ultrasound technician, nurse, therapist and photographer. This experience was more than just taking pictures; it was a powerful exercise in visualizing their potential. Seeing themselves dressed for success in their chosen fields helped our girls to believe in their future, affirm their dreams, and understand that they can achieve anything they set their minds to. The professional photos captured not just their ambition, but also their confidence, strength, and the bright futures ahead of them.
The Results: Growth You Can Feel
What we’ve seen with this first program session has been powerful. The girls laughed, learned, shared, stretched, and soared. We watched confidence blossom, voices grow stronger, and bonds of sisterhood take root. And now, as we conclude this cycle, we are more committed than ever to continuing this vital work.
To our partners, guest speakers, families, and — most importantly — our incredible young queens: thank you for making this journey so special. The growth doesn’t stop here. This is just the beginning.
Here’s to strong girls, bright futures, and the power of community. 💖
